More than anything, this really shows the brilliance of Dostoyevsky. Unlike writers like Ayn Rand, he really makes his villains so convincing and 3 dimensional. In the final analysis, Ivan is NOT meant to be someone to look up to. But he's so beautifully written that you could easily argue the other way.
